Description of your project * Have you ever wondered how may houses could be built if only your council could bring itself to release land suitable for development? How much land Tesco is sitting on in your local area? Using a Google Maps API and a spreadsheet, you can tap into the wealth of information from data.gov.uk and visualise this on a map. When it comes to new house-building projects, we think that engaging developers and making proposals attractive for them is a way to more sustainable and affordable housing. For this to happen, government needs to be persuaded to release land at lower price. Then, it might be possible to develop higher quality housing due to the lower initial cost of the land purchase. The web app could also be used to identify sites for high quality sustainable housing, especially in light of the government's recent plans for the revival of garden cities.
