Although this can hardly be considered a hack, this was something that the whole team found rather important to create.
At the beginning of the hack, we viewed the mobile Refugees United website in a foreign language: making ourselves illiterate, much like many of the users. We found the mobile site very intimidating and difficult to use.
One of our hacks is a simple redesign of the mobile version of the website.
A number of things have been changed: -- Use of short, concise keywords. -- Use of icons to accompany text. -- Although it will increase access costs, we chose to have fewer elements per page.
You can see the presentation we used to explain this (it might not make as much sense without Kevin speaking over it) here: http://speakerdeck.com/u/craigsnowden/p/ref-utd-new-mobile-ui
