This redesign addresses issues of usability, incomplete profiles and absent users. One question per page, with a easily understood symbol designating it 'required or optional' - more user testing is needed for this. Rather than asking for western-style questions about full name or date of birth, there are culturally more relevant questions, e.g. sub-clan membership, previous local imam or father's role in the community. Users are not coerced into uploading their own photo if concerned about personal safety, but can choose from a range of specially designed cartoon symbols. If a search is performed and a match found, a 'secret question' must be answered correctly before contact can be made.

A 'people you may know' feature gives relevant similarities either in a tag cloud or as a list with an user icon next to it. This can encourage non-family members from the same community group to provide useful information. We also considered an alternative signup process, whereby users record a short audio profile with the RU monitor or by speaking into their mobile phone.
